Racewear dressing etiquette

What to wear to the races

With Weetwood approaching I thought it appropriate to think about autumn racing dress code, yes there is such a thing! Starting with the dress, heels, bag and then of course … THE hat! There are so many components to your outfit. Yes, going to the races, is a fun day out with friends, but keep in mind that it’s not an evening event. Keep it a little bit conservative and formal and leave the miniskirts, crop tops and sequins for the nightclub! For autumn racing, the number one rule is that headwear should be felt as straw is reserved for spring/summer only. Not a fan of felt hats? Structured headbands are big this season made from all kinds of materials. I love leather and it is great for autumn wear! Exaggerated pieces in silks and feathers are always on show. Dress for the cooler weather, no strappy summer stilettos, a pump heel is a better choice. No lace or fine cotton gloves, save them for the spring racing carnival, leather and wool is what you want. Clutches with an optional strap are perfect to keep your hands free for champagne, canapés and the form guide!

How to wear a hat in Winter!

How to wear a hat in Winter!

How to Wear a Hat in Winter Have you ever thought about how to wear a hat? A hat is a perfect accessory; it shows your personal style and works all year round. A hat is a stylish accessory suitable for all seasons; the tricky part is making sure it complements your outfit. Your scarf is an essential accessory for winter, but a hat is the most chic! Winter affords us the opportunity to wear all the gorgeous jewels colours! If you’re only purchasing one hat, find a colour that matches most of your winter pieces in your wardrobe. Two hats would be better, a darker one and another in a bright colour to add a pop to your winter outfits, try to have two very different colours, perhaps an olive green or navy and then a red or bright pink. Winter is the perfect time to wear a hat and remember you don’t need a special occasion to wear a hat. Ultimately, wearing a hat for style or function is never a bad decision. Remember a hat provides you with confidence, attitude and contributes to your personal style!
